TAMPA GULF COAST FISHING REPORT

Captains Quarters Resort, with FREE boat report
It's crazy- the fishing has been fantastic. The cooler nights have turned the daytime fishing red hot. Inshore, all zones are producing large yellow mouth or gator trout in the shallow grass flats. The redfish are schooling so look for jumping mullet near the spoil islands, or try the mangroves along Crystal Beach during high tide. The east side of the big barrier islands like Honeymoon, Caladesi, 3Rooker, and Anclote all have big schools of redfish easily spooked, so take your time on approach. You can also fish the passes between these islands for macks, blues, grouper and sharks... Offshore, the grouper are trying to pull us out of the boat. Matt from Georgia and I, tried to get the other guests together for a last minute grouper trip, but unsuccessful we decided to run just 7 miles offshore for quick two hour trip. The midday trip produced two big fish for the ice box. The bite was so quick we long lost count of the catch and release fish. Trips like this run about $150 fuel and bait. The photos and looks on the faces of the other guests were well worth it. Note: To guest- Stone crab season starts Oct. 15 - May 15, be prepared to get dirty or stay on the dock!
